The foundation was established 40 years ago through a spontaneous action by Karlheinz Böhm. In the ZDF program "Wetten dass...", Karlheinz Böhm bet that not even one in three viewers would donate a Deutschmark to fight hunger in the world. That same evening, a donation of 1.2 million Deutschmarks was raised. Even then, it was clear that each and every one of us can change the world for the better, however small a contribution we make.

With the donation we make for you, you support various areas of charitable work. For example, Menschen für Menschen supports farmers in making agriculture more productive. The foundation also provides clean drinking water in central locations with hand-pumped wells, spring taps or entire water supply systems. To promote education across the board, Menschen für Menschen builds and equips modern schools. There are also projects to provide basic medical care and develop long-term livelihood security.
